West Maple Plastic Surgery was founded in 1998 by Dr. Dan Sherbert, a respected plastic and reconstructive surgeon whose career was defined by compassion, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to patient care. Practicing in West Bloomfield, Michigan, Dr. Sherbert trained locally under the renowned Dr. Ian Jackson and built a practice rooted in clinical excellence and deep respect for the individuals he served.

Dr. Sherbert’s passion for breast reconstruction grew through advanced fellowship training under Dr. Carl Hartrampf, a pioneer in the field. His work was shaped not only by surgical skill, but by a profound understanding of the emotional impact breast cancer has on patients and their families. He believed that restoring the body was only part of healing, and that thoughtful, attentive care could help restore a person’s sense of wholeness and identity.

Dr. Jeffrey DeSano shares this same philosophy. Drawn to plastic and reconstructive surgery through both personal experience and purpose, Dr. DeSano trained under Dr. Sherbert during his residency at Beaumont Health in Royal Oak. Working closely together in the operating room and in patient care, Dr. DeSano learned the importance of listening carefully, communicating clearly, and treating every patient with dignity and respect.

Throughout his training, Dr. DeSano developed a commitment to patient-centered care that reflects the values Dr. Sherbert instilled. He approaches every case with intention, emphasizing safety, thoughtful planning, and outcomes that feel natural and personal to each individual.

Recognizing Dr. DeSano’s dedication and character, Dr. Sherbert personally entrusted him to carry the practice forward.
